Q:
I am 14 years old and I am wondering
what would happen to me if I got caught shoplifting? My friends
all say it is really easy and no one ever gets caught.
A: IT IS NOT EASY! You are not
the first teenager to think that shoplifting is easy! In many
stores there are cameras and security guards that are paid to
watch for shoplifters. It is very easy to get caught!
If you are caught
shoplifting, you will be approached by the security at the store
you are in or possibly after you leave the store. From there,
the security will call the local police and your parents. Your
parents will come to the store and the police as well. You will
most likely be charged will shoplifting, which will usually mean
that you will go to court and appear before a Judge. You may
be ordered to participate in community service work (non-paid
service to your community), apology letters, have to pay
restitution back to the store you shoplifted from, and a
possibly pay a fine to the court. In addition to all the court
ordered items, you might also not be allowed to go back into the
store you shoplifted from again and will have a juvenile record!
The cd, bra,
shirt, etc that you were thinking of stealing is NOT worth it!
