500 Kinds of Smores - By Efe O. ,  NJ

On the insular planet of Fluffy Marshmallow there flourished majestic trees with mauve trunks that bore various fruit such as beige graham crackers, milky white marshmallows, and bars of the richest, creamiest chocolate that anyone ever had the decadent pleasure to taste. The sky was a curious shade of lavender and beyond the horizon there was a great stretch of country having a floor as smooth and shining as a big platter. Scattered around were many houses made entirely of china and painted with the most alluring colors. These houses were quite small, there were also pretty little barns, with china fences around them. Many cows, sheep, horses, pigs, and chickens all made of porcelain, meandered about in-groups.
But strangest of all were the people who lived on this queer planet. There were milkmaids and shepherdesses, with dazzlingly colored bodices and golden spots all over their gowns; and princesses with the most gorgeous frocks of sliver, gold and lavender; and shepherds dressed in suits with crimson, golden and sapphire stripes down them, and platinum buckles on their shoes; and princes with jeweled crowns upon their heads, wearing ermine robes and satin doublets; and comical clowns in ruffled gowns, with read spots upon their cheeks and tall pointed hats. And, strangest of all, these people were made of china even to their clothes. The people of the planet were practically perfect in every way and the planet was too, except for the fact that 50% of the people living in the town were poor bums living on the street.
In a town called Gooeyville there lived a thirteen-year-old girl named Marsha Mallow who was infatuated with marshmallows and happened to be named after the sticky confection. Five foot four and with teeth as white as pearls, Marsha was the local library's #1 patron. She was rather imaginative and used her extraordinary talent to write short stories such as this one. Her eyes were the color of a field of Jersey Gems and had porcelain skin a little darker than caramel.
During the week she goes to St. Mary's Middle School and chants a 500-word litany everyday. Being a denizen of Fluffy Marshmallow for the thirteen scant years of life. She was cognizant of the fact that the planet she lives on is in a decadent state. There are countless poor people living in decaying cardboard boxes trying to get help, but there is not one eleemosynary soul in sight. That's why she joined the Gooeyville Town council.
The next morning she woke up, took a shower in, brushed her teeth and dressed up for school. She ate a hearty breakfast of blueberry pancakes, pan-fried bacon and a tall cold glass of orange juice.
After she packed her backpack with her textbooks, pencils, pens and lunch money. She strolled to her friend Malikah's house and the talked all the way to school with her talkative friend Malikah and practiced all of the lectures.
After school while reading The Visitor by Christopher Pike in her lavender room adorned with handmade pillows, posters, books, a radio, banners and stuffed animals with Kris the Cow (her favorite stuffed animal) on her tidy flower-printed bed at home she abruptly recollected that there was a town council assembly at 7:00pm. After a while of persuading on her part, her mom finally agreed to take her to the meeting. Arriving ten minutes late, she tiptoed in and took a seat in the left corner next to her friend Malikah.
"You're late again, said Malikah irritably. "The council members are discussing what to do with the extra money they raised during The Walk for Your Planet Marathon."
"The inhabitants of Fluffy Marshmallow are angry because the community center is in a disheveled state so, I propose that we build a bigger and better new one," stated one of the council members.
"That is a good idea," one of the townspeople called out.
Marsha raised her hand and quietly said, "Why don't we make our town a better place by building a homeless shelter, we would still have enough money to build a new community center and be helping our majestic planet as well.
"Any more suggestions," said the president. "Then lets vote on it", he bellowed. Everyone in the room wrote their votes on a piece a disposable tablecloth". Marsha's idea won by a landslide. The whole town of Gooeyville voted on the decision and they voted in favor of Marsha's idea. During the following month the townspeople some hired construction workers & a team of horses built the community center, the homeless shelter and The Gooey Marshmallow a restaurant that serves 500 different kinds of food made with marshmallows. The townspeople and Marsha Mallow lived extravagantly and successfully ever after.
