A lonely midnight
I stand awake
Beside the window sill-
With eager eyes
Which has the hope, still.

A silent night
No noise of a gushing spring-
No noise of a single bird,
Not a single cling!
Still I stand awake-
I know you’ll return by daybreak
Won’t you?

Seven years have flitted past-
The war should be over by now…
Right?
A silent night.
